Credible News Sources
Google Newspaper ArchivesGoogle has a collection of primary sources that is phenomenal! They have an entire newspaper archive that is easy to zoom in for individual close reading, or for display for shared reading. You can also zoom out to get the big picture of the older newspapers. Original advertisements, editorials, articles, fashion, etc. are right there waiting for you!

ReutersReuters, an international news agency stationed in London, is so dedicated to journalistic objectivity that they sometimes receive criticism for it. After the September 11 attacks, they were accused of insensitivity because of their reluctance to use the word “terrorist” except when in quotes.

The Real News NetworkThe Real News is a non-profit, daily video-news and documentary site. The do not accept advertising, government or corporate funding, instead, relying viewer donations and earned revenue. The OnionWhile it certainly looks legit upon first glance, The Onion is a purely satirical site. It has fooled many, many people to outrage with its headlines like 'Judge Rules White Girl Will Be Tried As Black Adult' and 'Titanic Reenactment Club Loses Another 1500 Members'.

Xinhua News Xinhua is the biggest and most influential media organization in China. Its president is a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. While it is widely used by the people of China, it is obviously government controlled and is filled with propaganda.

Examiner.comConsidered a 'content farm', examiner.com is not generally considered a reliable news source. While it may resemble the format used by legitimate websites, the content is by amateur writers and is effectively user-generated content, lacks editorial oversight, and pays contributors based on page views and other factors rather than the actual news reported and quality of work.
